We were at the TiE ISBConnect 2008 Jumpstart event earlier this month and we plan to share the the thoughts by some of the speakers in this series of posts.

First post in this series we feature Sashi Reddi the founder of Applabs and FXLabs, and he spoke about his beliefs about the success of an entrepreneur:

- You shouldn’t be a part time entrepreneur i.e. doing your job and running your own business…it does no good to your business.

- Jump before you think – Don’t wait to make a perfect business plan before starting out your business…jump into your work and then tackle the problems as and when they come

- If you are starting a company, it is to make money – it is not meant to ‘help people’

- It’s better to be playing in a fast growing big market with big players than in a small market.

- Start by thinking small – figure out how you are going to make money from the first few customers that you have. Once you’ve done this and have a proven business model, then start thinking big

- Have rich friends or make rich friends – it is very difficult to raise small amount funds (Rs.50 to 100 lakhs) from professional investors. It’s highly possible that your first round of money may need to be raised from friends and family.

- You need to be working on winning your first customer from Day One

- Building your company is not a team effort..YOU have to make it work! Even though will have people working for you, YOU have to lead the team…define the vision…etc.

- The CEO is the main sales guy of the firm

- Don’t look at necessarily having a sexy business idea or business model. Even the most routine and mundane of things can make you money”

Some more speakers’ opinions and viewpoints to follow…stay blogged in!!
